It's hard to believe that it’s almost a year since our darling mom passed away. She was not only the heart and soul of our family, but also a driving force behind our cherry business. Her dedication and passion for delivering export-quality cherries was truly remarkable, and she cherished each one of you as valued customers.

We are delighted to share with you that we will be continuing to deliver the same mouthwatering cherries that she took pride in. We are committed to upholding the high standards of excellence that she set. Expect the same luscious extra-large and extra-extra-large cherries you've come to love.

History of the Cherry Lady

Cherries were always Val Mazinter’s favourite fruit and for about 8 weeks each year, from November to January she sold the best, export quality cherries to friends, family , neighbours and cherry lovers from her home in Fresnaye, Cape Town.

It all started 43 years ago with a family excursion into the country to pick cherries. Picking cherries was not as easy as it looked and what started out as a fun and exciting adventure, soon turned into hard work in the baking hot sun and ended with tired, whiny children and sticky hands.

It was then that Val decided to approach the farmer and arrange for weekly deliveries of cherries to Cape Town.

Initially, it began as a service to close family and friends, but soon grew into an annual labour of love, supported by not only local customers, but caterers, delis, restaurants and holidaymakers who heard about the “Cherry Lady” on Clifton or Saunders Beach. People stopped her everywhere to ask about cherries and she made cherry friends wherever she went. Some customers even asked her to courier boxes of her export quality cherries to them in Plett and Hermanus.

Val passed away in January this year just as the cherry season was coming to an end. So, in honour of her memory and her undying love for cherries, we've decided to keep the cherry train rolling. Yep, you heard it right! The upcoming cherry season will not just be about cherries; it'll be a tribute to the incredible lady who made it all happen and her dedication to you, her beloved customers.
